Cool Things About Washington I

These two photos were made two hours and about 75 miles apart. On the left, the western face of the Cascade Mountains near Index, Washington. Weather moves inland from the Pacific Ocean and runs into the Cascades, where moisture is dropped as the air is forced upward.

On the right, basalt outcroppings in the Central Washington desert, just east of Wenatchee. One of the best things about living in Washington State is that a two-hour drive changes the climate from a rainforest to a desert.

On occasion, Camille gets tired of the grey days of the wet season, so we pack a bag and go across the mountains for a weekend. The sun and dry air recharges us.
